History

Created 1754 by Jacques BOYD, of Irish origin, the estate was purchased by John Lewis BROWN in 1806, who was related to the Boyd family by marriage.
Since the wines from BOYD-CANTENAC had been recognised and traded for a century, in 1855 the Château was classified Third Growth, in the Grand Cru classification of the Bordeaux wines.

The estate belonged to the GINESTET family, once owner of CHATEAU MARGAUX, before coming to the current owners in the early 1930s.

After the economic crisis which greatly affected the vineyards after the first world war, Pierre Guillemet brought BOYD-CANTENAC back to life in the sixties. Since, its wines regularly bring their contribution to the Art of Living and to the expression of the terroir of MARGAUX. Not following changing and short-lived fashions, BOYD-CANTENAC remains true to the style of traditional Margaux wines.
