The sun was generous from spring through autumn in such a way that the vegetative season was hotter and drier than in 1982 and 1976, and without rain during the harvest. Only 1949 was, on the whole, drier. The harvest began on September 10th.
Because of their low acidity, the wines are supple, generous, with very ripe tannins which were due to the exceptional ripening conditions leading up to the harvest. The Petit Verdot was especially useful in strengthening the structure of the Merlot, which was over ripe. In the end, this exceptional vintage is atypical, with wines that are supple, very ripe, opulent and rich.
