If April and May were rainier than their 30-year averages, May, June and, over all, August and the first twenty days of September, were hot. By the harvest, the grapes were very healthy, with characteristics similar to those of 1999 : high sugar content, good acidity, but with more polyphenols. It was a rather precocious vintage, with picking beginning on September 25th, and finishing October 12th.
This vintage will count among the greatest vintages of the 20th century.
